NOSTALGIC LANDSCAPES: RESPONSES TO THE BRITISH SEASIDE (JENNY STEELE IN CONVERSATION WITH DAVID JARRATT)

Dr David Jarratt ;an Tourism, Hospitality and Events lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire was invited to an innovative program of events called in Practising Place . The event was organised by 'In Certain Places' in the School of Art, Design and Fashion; which bought together artists with academics from other disciplines. David was in conversation with Manchester based ‘artist, Jenny Steele, in front of a mixed audience with an interest in art, heritage and tourism. Both speakers presented a summary of their work, before entering into conversation and turning to the audience who offered a variety of questions and observations of their own. The conversation centred around Jenny's work which is response to seaside moderne architecture, David's work on sense of place at the seaside, or seasideness, and nostalgia for the seaside - a subject which intrigues both of them.

The event was entitled ‘Nostalgic Landscapes: responses to the British Seaside’ and you can see more information on the In Certain Places website: http://incertainplaces.org/projects/nostalgic-landscapes-responses-to-the-british-seaside-jenny-steele-in-conversation-with-david-jarratt/, which includes a link to Jenny’s website / work. The conversation was recorded and will be available on-line through In Certain Places. Also an article on seasideness by David is freely available on-line: http://hrcak.srce.hr/145689?lang=en
