Dr David Jarratt has been invited to Portugal to showcase his work at the prestigious CIT - International Congress on Tourism.
Hosted in Porto by the Higher Institute of Business and Tourism, the event brings together tourism professionals, academics, researchers and scholars from around the world to exchange information and knowledge about the industry.
Dr Jarratt will be discussing 'Seasideness' - his idea that seaside resorts have their own sense of place (a person's own emotional connection to place) because of the distinctive built & natural environment they represent.
Seasideness is marked by feelings of wellness and nostalgia, especially for childhood. This helps explain the appeal of the seaside and sheds light on the elements of the market. Dr Jarratt's work is entirely case-study based, focusing on the town of Morecambe.
The event takes place on 21-23 June. For more information please click here.
